Plastic-Free Ilford
Plastic Free July® is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities. Will you be part of Plastic Free July by choosing to refuse single-use plastics?
“Plastic-Free Ilford” is a campaign group that seeks to remove single-use plastic from our communities and raises awareness around the use, re-use, recycling and disposal of plastic. We are proud to join the many sister TTI campaign groups that seek to move away from single-use plastic (e.g. the Food Co-Op and Forest Garden projects).
We were on the Ilford Recorder

Community Cafe
As part of the pop-up market we ran a community cafe where we offered a range of healthy meals and cakes cooked by our local community chef Begonia Belmonte. The aim was to bring people together over a nice meal where the local community was involved in running the cafe.
This was a friendly and exciting meeting place for people interested in community, environment, skills sharing and with a vision for Ilford and Redbridge.

Pop-up Market
We ran the pop-up market and hub, originally in partnership with Sophia Hubs, and alongside our hosts, Ilford Recycles and the Salvation Army.
Here’s some of our achievements:
- Given an opportunity for a free stall to over 25 local crafts/green stalls,
- Brought in new clients and contacts for Ilford Recycles (the bike shop and servicing is still open on the 2nd Saturday)
- Given an opportunity and platform for 15+ local people to share their skills or knowledge in informal skills shares.
- Sold 500+ healthy meals/home-made cakes
- Involved 15 community cooks
- Worked with 25 volunteers
- More recently, mended 10 electrical appliances
- Partnered with Restart Party, Vision, Give or Take stall
- Created a community green hub and community spirit in the heart of Ilford and a list of 120 people who want to stay in touch with us. 🙂
