Our Energy volunteers run regular Energy Cafes in Ilford. These offer an informal, friendly way to give energy saving advice to people struggling with fuel bills. People can talk about their issues and be offered information on:
- Taking simple actions to make their home more energy efficient
- Saving energy and money by changing their fuel tariff or supplier
- Financial help they may be eligible to get
The Energy Volunteers provide guidance and advice, supported by a trained Energy Advisor.
As well as a regular slot in the Library, the team of volunteers are keen to run Energy Cafes in venues in Ilford, for example at Food Banks, places of worship and community centres, in fact, anywhere people gather. If you would like to invite the cafe to your venue, then contact us by email: energycafe@transitionilford.org.uk

Condensation tips:
Warm air holds more water vapour than cold air, so when damp air cools, water condenses on cold surfaces. If walls stay damp, mould can grow.
• Use lids on saucepans
• Use a kitchen extractor fan when cooking, or open window, close door
• Turn off your kettle as soon as it boils
• If you can’t dry washing outside, dry it on airers. Don’t dry washing on radiators, because the heat of a radiator evaporates more water vapour than the air can hold, so it condenses on walls. Washing hung on airers dries at a rate the air can absorb. A dehumidifier is useful if you dry lots of washing indoors and damp is a problem.
• Open a window (or use extractor fan) when showering. If it’s too chilly, open the window and close the door for 10 minutes after your shower.
• Open bedroom windows for a short while each morning to ventilate your home. Water vapour from breathing condenses on bedroom windows; wiping regularly in winter helps stop black mould.
