load of apples

The Ilford Apple Harvest project for 2026 is underway!

We have a growing team: Farah, Farzana, Monica, Mohammed, Ros, Ruth, Taz….  We have Highlands School on board, a community kitchen at Belgrave Community Mosque and a Church kitchen on the Commonwealth Estate (tbc).

What’s the plan?

We will harvest apples in two areas of Ilford this year as a pilot.  We want to know the the addresses of the apples that have been going to waste.  We are restricting the project to the areas from Perth Road to the Commonwealth Estate up to Ley Street and over the Cranbrook Road to Wanstead Park Avenue.  Basically this year we will be collecting apples mainly in the areas around Christchurch School and Highlands School.

Please register your apple trees (and other fruit if you like) on this Google form. We are collecting information on trees in other areas of Ilford that we can hopefully take on next year.

What will be do with the apples?

The good ones we will distribute to the Community Grocer, Food banks and other community groups and spaces.

The bad’uns we will use what we can and turn to chutneys etc, using all the community recipes we can find.  We will be using community kitchens to work together to make sure our apples are used and don’t go to waste
