Plant distribution project 2026

Auckland Road

On April 25th Liza and Salina organised a plant distribution for residents of Auckland Road and nearby streets. Most of the people who took plants have no garden and it was the first time they have grown anything.

Plants distributed included Tomatoes and Chillies grown by local residents, as well as Squash, Strawberries and Peppers   which were purchased from a garden centre along with compost and plant food. At least 16 families took plants, tubs and compost.

Dudley Road

Nadia also ran a plant distribution in Dudley road on Sunday May 3

Nadia writes,

“Our distribution went really well today! We had all the participants who had shown an interest in joining turn up and then lots of neighbours walking by who decided to take part!….  it was really productive, many are new to gardening so they were really excited to get started with something and share their progress through the growing season. We had our Playstreets going on at the same time too so the children were really excited to get involved and help neighbours fill their pots!

I may run an additional session in the next few weeks just focusing more on the seed sowing (mainly green salads and leafy herbs).

Also maybe another session where people  can learn how to make their own plant food from nettle/comfrey and take home to use”
