We are glad to announce that we are organising 🍅🫘🥒🍓Container Food Growing 🍅🫘🥒🍓 this year. If you don’t have a front garden but have a balcony or a very small space out front, it will be enough for a chilli plant, tomatoes, mint….
Our Growing Food Growing Friends project recruits volunteers who then recruit their neighbours to join in. Its’ about one person being the link on your patch and inviting/involving your neighbours to join in (perhaps speaking to them for the very first time, knocking on doors..) – so it is growing friends too.
If it is your workplace, faith place, youth club or School, the Growing Food Growing Friends volunteer will be the link person for those joining in the growing.
The project is in the growing season, so it starts in April and runs until September/October. People with front garden space can gladly join of course, although our aim this year is to find people and places that don’t have a garden. It’s amazing how a tiny space can become a food growing site!
We will supply you with compost, seeds/plants, some skills workshops (such as taking cuttings) and a container if you need one. We will keep in touch and offer other support including friendly front garden meet-ups, and an invitation to a harvest event at the Forest Garden in Valentines Park.
If you live in IG1 and would like to be a volunteer for this project we would love to hear from you -just email us. If you are not able to be a volunteer but would be willing to grow some seedlings which the project can use, then we would also be very grateful.
Already signed up for 2025 : Ilford Hill residents gardening club, Rubens residential home for the elderly, Malachi housing project in Ilford Town Centre, St Luke’s Church community garden, plus Peter, Salina, Ruti,…….. Room for more!
